About Cedar Lane
History of School
The Montessori School of Cedar Lane is a private, non-sectarian, co-educational school for children three to six years old. It was co-founded by Joyce and Lance Gilbert in 1971. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert were trained by Miss Margaret Stevenson of the Washington Montessori Institute. Miss Stephenson was a close friend, associate and former student of Maria Montessori. Our current director, Diane O’Keefe, was also trained at the Washington Montessori Institute by Miss Stephenson.
Montessori School of Cedar Lane is located at 3035 Cedar Lane in Fairfax, Virginia. We are conveniently located off Route 50 near the beltway and approximately 1.5 miles from the Vienna and Dunn Loring Metro Stations. Our school serves families in the Fairfax, Vienna, Falls Church and Annandale communities. Through the years, our school has flourished with a rich tradition and stable staffing so that it has served as a model environment for many observers over the years. In addition, our school has been selected by the Association Montessori Internationale and American Montessori Society to help train future teachers.
