History
The Hunter Mill Montessori School is a private, non-sectarian, co-educational school for children two years, nine months to six years old. It was co-founded by Joyce and Lance Gilbert in 1990. Our current director, Maureen Cook, has been with The Hunter Mill Montessori School for 15 years. Mrs. Cook obtained her Montessori Teacher’s certification while training under founder, Joyce Gilbert.
Location
The Hunter Mill Montessori School is located at 2709 Hunter Mill Road in Oakton, Virginia. Our school primarily serves families in the Vienna and Oakton areas. The school is nestled on a 20 acre wooded lot. The Hunter Mill Montessori School is unique with an open-plan architectural design that harmonizes with the beautiful natural landscape and it offers an intimate setting for the children.
Programs and Hours of Operation
The Hunter Mill Montessori School enrolls forty children with two Montessori trained teachers and several assistants. In a warm and nurturing setting, the school provides the “prepared environment” utilizing the discoveries and methods of Dr. Montessori. The goal of the school is to assist the child in developing more fully the potential within him leading to self-confidence, independence, and love of learning.
The Hunter Mill Montessori School offers a Half Day Program (9 a.m. to noon) and a Full Day Program (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). The school runs from September to the first week in June. An optional summer program is offered each summer at our Montessori School of Cedar Lane location.
